Tensions

Earlier this month, the United States urged the United
Nations Security Council to support a coalition of troops
and resources to intervene in Sudan's genocide. By a
unanimous vote, the UN agreed to oversee and organize the
proposed mission. However, the United States itself is not
expected to offer its services. Then, today, United States
vice-president Dick Cheney said America was "doing
everything we can do" in order to end the violence, with
Assistant Secretary of State for African affairs, Jendayi
Frazer, reporting that she no longer believes the situation
to be "genocide" since the violence is not supported by the
government. This comes after years of assurances from both
the U.S. and U.N. that the Sudanese government has been
clearly and undeniably linked to the Janjaweed.
In the meantime, Sudan's junior foreign minister has
reiterated his country's opposition to plans of sending U.N.
peacekeepers to Darfur. He has been quoted as saying,
"Government consent is an essential precondition for taking
any such a move by the world organization." In short, the
Sudanese government is rejecting the U.N. peacekeeping
mission, suggesting that it isn't necessary and the money
would be better spent elsewhere.
Despite the recent and rapid backpedaling of Frazer, the
evidence to the contrary of her claim remains. The situation
in Sudan has produced the most civilian casualties since
World War II. A decade's worth of indisputable verification
of the government's involvement cannot by recanted by a
press briefing.
Now is the time to
voice yourself. We cannot let this atrocity be pushed to
the backburner and watered-down by biased bureaucrat . There
are politicians ready and willing to fight-- they
need to know they have our support. Now more than ever, it
has become horrifyingly evident exactly how lethal apathy
can be.
"The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good
men to do nothing." |

| Welcome to
Operation Sudan
|
Apathy (n): Lack of interest or concern, especially
regarding matters of general importance or appeal;
indifference. Lack of emotion or feeling; impassiveness.
Apathy is lethal. Apathy allows millions of innocent
children to be brutally murdered while countless others in
positions to help do nothing. Hate, tyranny, and prejudice
may spark such tragedy, but apathy is what allows it to
continue.
This site is for those children and the millions others who
no longer believe in life past tomorrow. We are Operation
Sudan, and we collect donations for the refugees of Darfur
so that they may once again believe in hope. 100% of all
contributions go directly towards food, water, medicine, and
shelter for the helpless millions. With your generosity and
involvement, we can and will bring this
horrendous reality to the forefront, thereby pressuring
politicians across the globe to end this madness.
Aside from donating, we encourage everyone to get informed.
Read our essays and make use of the available resources. Our
volunteer page includes printable fliers so that you can
help make others aware.
Remember, your voice is only too small if you don't use it. |
